Another Year Is Dawning…..

Wow, it’s 2012. The beginning of a new year…it’s a time we often look to “new beginnings, do overs, resolutions, change” and it usually begins with diet, exercise, finances, habits…..improvements. All of this is positive and good, if we stick to it and make the change. I believe everyone can make a decision to improve one’s life. Diet and nutrition are a great place to start. Exercise usually is a little harder and the one that wane’s over time. But, it is essential for good physical and mental health. You don’t have to go out and join a gym, or throw all the pantry food away…start with reasonable goals….cut out everyday sweets, bake/broil instead of fried, no fast food or choose the healthier choice…..walk a 1/2 mile three days a week.

What about spiritual health? Do you make resolutions about your spiritual health? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say they need to cut back on faith or put their faith on a diet. It’s easy to neglect our spiritual life and, like physical well being, it suffers when we become neglectful.
If our diet lacks healthy nutrition and physical exercise, we are more susceptible to illness, disease and harder to recover when we get sick. Same thing with one’s spiritual health. When we neglect spending time with the Father, either in reading his word, prayer time,  attending worship services, helping others, singing his praises, however it is you worship, our faith and trust suffers. Something may come along and rock our world, we may not have the spiritual fitness to hang on and trust. God never leaves our side unless we push him aside.
I hope to make 2012 a year of: progress, praise, trust, filled with gladness, promise, service all through his grace and mercies.
Make some healthier decisions, even some fun decisions but most importantly some spiritual decisions.
As you eat that “apple a day, throw in a scripture a day”.
Today’s healthy goal……drink more water

Today’s spiritual goal….send cards(hand written and “snail mail”!) to one’s I haven’t heard from recently.
Blessings and hugs….
Another Year is Dawning
St. Barts, December 2011
The Message (MSG)

 12-17 Oh! Teach us to live well!
Teach us to live wisely and well!
Come back, God—how long do we have to wait?—
and treat your servants with kindness for a change.
Surprise us with love at daybreak;
then we’ll skip and dance all the day long.
Make up for the bad times with some good times;
we’ve seen enough evil to last a lifetime.
Let your servants see what you’re best at—
the ways you rule and bless your children.
And let the loveliness of our Lord, our God, rest on us,
confirming the work that we do.
Oh, yes. Affirm the work that we do!
