The title of the above painting brings many memories to mind. First one, gum. A bright yellow package with 5 sticks of sweet sugary gum. I taste it now! Secondly, biting into a Harry and David Royal Riviera pear-sweet, delicious, juicy! I have not had either of these juicy bites in years! But, the sensory memory is enough to make me want to go out and get both.
I had another great blast from the past recently. Lunch with a childhood friend. It came about after hearing of his moms death. Then getting in touch, then-art. He writes about art and I follow his articles. After sporadic emails of me commenting on his articles we met for lunch. It was great fun to see him, catch up and reminisce. His family was a very important part of my childhood-my story. For a period in my life my family, his family were mentioned in the same breath like bread and butter, sugar and spice and toss and turn. We attended the same church, gathered at each others homes, shared many, many meals. His family had the very first color television I ever watched. I remember going over on Saturday mornings and watching cartoons in color. We’ve agreed to stay in touch and meet again soon. I hope we do.
God gives us special people along our journey in life. We are never alone, even though it may feel that way at times or we choose to be alone. People at certain times are needed for comfort, encouragement and to help us find strength. It may be a stranger, unexpected acquaintance, a loving friend but they arrive just when it truly matters. Some remain for many years, some never again, some for a brief period of time. But, the impact on your life is tucked away and may re-appear when needed. Always remember you may be that one special person in someone’s life that gives them hope, gets them through one more day, makes them smile. God gives us all direction and ability for those who have a need. I recently read a devotion that labeled this Spiritual DNA-Direction, Need, Ability.
Even when we think it is just “me and the world”, there is one friend that is ALWAYS by our side or carrying us along the path. He provides our spiritual DNA.

1 Corinthians 3:5-9
New International Version (NIV)
5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.
