The above painting was created during an October workshop. A group of us painted at the Dallas Arboretum and White Rock Lake. It was a magnificent weekend with near perfect weather. I am a native Dallasite and have always enjoyed White Rock Lake. Many, many memories of Sunday drives, family reunions….during teenage years Sunday’s riding around with friends, and hanging out being “hippie’s” throwing frisbee’s and enjoying life!
I always enjoy this diamond in the middle of Dallas. And it amazes me that there are people who have never taken in it’s beauty. But to my amazement, Niki took us to an area I had NEVER visited! It was an area of the lake that is breathtaking and on this day, with fall color. It was exhilerating to squeeze out the paint on the palette and create the brilliant fall colors.
I may have used the quote from a country western song, “You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything”, in a previous blog. But, it came to mind recently as I listened to the politicians, the news media, the experts, etc….. It seems when a firm stand is taken, the critics, opponents, media, and experts rip them apart. Some, then begin to waffle, swing, spin, re-evaluate and sometimes change their stand. But, there are a few that stay their course, remain strong, go against the status quo, and stand for what they truly believe. Standing firm often causes them to drop in the polls, lose the race, lose their job. I so admire, even if I disagree with the position, someone who truly sticks to their convictions through all the bullying, criticisms and unpopular choices.
From the beginning of time, choices have been made-to stand or fall…Garden of Eden, Garden of Gethsemane, one fell, one stood firm.
What do you do when faced with a true challenge of your convictions? Do you fall or stand? Have faith in yourself, be courageous, honor your passion, let your light shine for others to see.
You’ve Got To Stand For Something….Aaron Tippin
Now Daddy didn’t like trouble, but if it came along Everyone that knew him knew which side that he’d be on He never was a hero, or this county’s shinin’ light But you could always find him standing up For what he thought was right
He’d say you’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything You’ve got to be your own man not a puppet on a string Never compromise what’s right and uphold your family name You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything
Now we might have been better off or owned a bigger house If Daddy had done more givin’ in or a little more backing down But we always had plenty just living his advice Whatever you do today you’ll have to sleep with tonight
Blessings and hugs….
